As you prepare to disembark, we will be thinking about what it must be like to get on a jet and fly around the world! Wow!
Here are some of the questions the 5th graders are asking:
Samantha writes: What is going to be the best part of the trip?
Brandon writes: How long will it take you to get there? Are you going to ride a camel in Australia?
Dylan writes: What is the money like in Australia? Do they take U.S. dollars? What kinds of foods do Australians eat? What do Aboriginal people eat? Do they have fast food restaurants there? Is New Zealand part of Australia? Is there some president or a king there? Are there any really big mountains? What sports do Australians play?
Emmory writes: What kinds of animals do you think you will see while you are there?
Bailey writes: What is the Great Barrier Reef? Are there monkeys in Australia?
Tanner K. writes: How many days will you be on the plane? How long will you be there?
Katherine writes: Are their jungles in Australia? What kinds of plants do they have? Are there big cities in Australia?
Daniel D. writes: Is ACDC still big in Australia? Do they have Christmas on Dec. 25? Do they really say "Hay mate!" in Australia? Are Australians at war at this point with any other people in the world?
Brandon J. writes: Will you see snakes?
Jasmine K. writes: What are you going to be doing on the way there? What is the climate like? Do they have 4 seasons like we do in Wisconsin?
Hope writes: Are all Koala bears the same color? What will you do on the plane while you are traveling?
Tim writes: What is the capital of Australia? Will you see China?
Cassie writes: Do you like traveling? Is it really hot there? Can you all swim when you get there? Does it ever get really cold there?
Trent writes: How high does a kangaroo jump? Are there many species of animals living there?
Miranda writes: Does it snow in Australia? Will you be on boat while you are there?
Morgan writes: Where will you sleep?
These are just a few of the many questions our students are thinking about as you prepare for your adventure?

Hello 5th Graders!
Wow, I can’t believe that we’ll be traveling on our trip starting tomorrow! Time has definitely flown by quickly due to the holiday season! To answer Jasmine K.’s questions, I will be reading two textbooks during our flights—one being a guide all about Australian’s culture from food, recreation activities, how they socialize and many other aspects of their daily lives. The second book, Rabbit Proof Fence, is based off a true story about some aborigines that were in Australia in the 1940s and some hardships that they faced. I packed my iPod to listen to music and a big book of word-searches. I also plan to sleep on the plane ride, but I don’t know how well that’ll go considering I’ve never flown before. I guess I’ll let you know what happens later!
To answer your second question, Jasmine K., there are four seasons in Australia just like Wisconsin, but their seasons are backwards in comparison to Wisconsin! In other words, Australia’s Summer is from December to February (which is now!), Autumn is from March to May, Winter is from June to August and Spring is from September to November. Well, I need to go get some sleep—I’ll talk to you all soon!
Take care,
Val

I just want to know if you can listen to music on the plane.
Jasmine
The kinds of animals I want to are the kangaroo and walabees. SO far we saw walabees in the wild, and some kangaroos in a wildlife sanctuary, it was awsome.
From my understanfig ACDC will always be big in Australia because they are from here. Australia is not at war with any other countries from my understanding becuase they are an island and are isolated from those situations. All the people that our group has met has been so friendly and are willing to anser any questions we have.
Hello all!
Australia is absolutely amazing! Everything is so pretty, it's all mountains and hills, gorgeous! So far my favorite part was snorkeling and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We took a HUGE boat out to a small island which had hundreds of birds living there. We saw lots of cool fish, and really pretty coral. Some of the fish got so close to me I thought I was going to run into them! I saw 5 sting rays!!! One of them was as big as me, it was crazy! We saw lots of jelly fish too. They were all clear and really hard to see, and some of them were so tiny they looked like little bubbles. So cool! :}
Talk to you all soon!
Mel
