This is a few of us before we entered the Rainorest. George our tour guide who is an Aboriginie person explained to us how he had to clap his hands while walking through the forest to let his ancestors know that he was coming and as a sign of respect and to let them know he was one of them.

The Wet Tropics of Queensland! Sounds like a rainforest to us!

We studied biomes in one or our earlier units of study in science and social studies. We also studied how Native American people utilized the resources of each unique biome to make a living. We are wondering how much of an impact people have had on the surrounding environment of the rainforests in Australia? Do people still live there and hunt and gather like they used to thousands of years ago?

Well some of the indigenous people have managed to claim some of the land back so now its protected. But I imagine some, not all, still hunt and gather they way they used to in the past. George is an aboriginal person who lives according to present times in terms of modern medicine and grocery shopping while recognizing his culture and respecting the land.
